Betania is now 17 years old, but in her short life, she has gone through many challenges. She lost her mother when she was 12 years old. It was just after her mother's death that Betania arrived at the Clínica de Familia, accompanied by her father. She arrived in poor health, including body swelling, anemia and severe pain. She tested positive for HIV. She was immediately enrolled in the pediatrics program at Clínica de Familia, where she received medical care and treatment.
Her father, feeling that he would not be able to take good care of her without her mother, decides to place her in an orphanage. Since then, Betania's behavior has changed. She does not speak, has poor adherence to her medications, does not want to come to her appointments and presents explosive behavior. In 2015, the orphanage decided not to keep her.
His father's love makes him decide to fight for his daughter. He accompanies her, regardless of her refusal, to her medical appointments and the Family Clinic assigns her a community promoter to follow up with her. After several visits and interventions with her and her father by the promotora, the mental health department and her pediatrician, Betania begins to change her behavior.
Today, Betania is in very good health. She also has a harmonious relationship with her father. She is very adherent to her medications and never misses her appointments. She has learned that love changes everything. She is studying and has many goals for the future, which she will surely achieve with her father's love, the support of the Clínica de Familia and her own effort and determination.
