Clínica de Familia welcomes Dominican and international students and volunteers for education and training rotations, internships and practicums. The program is designed for medical, public health, nursing, social work and other health science students, residents and volunteers. The goal of program is to improve the health of underserved populations through the involvement of students and health professionals engaged in research, education and service. Students and volunteers participating in the experience should complete the program with the following objectives achieved:
- Increased cultural competence and understanding of the practice of medicine and public health in resource-poor settings.
- Increased knowledge of HIV care and treatment, diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, vertical transmission of HIV, family planning and adolescent reproductive health.
- Improved care for vulnerable populations in the eastern Dominican Republic, achieved through a major health, clinical or research project at the Clínica de Familia La Romana.
