Susana, at the age of 29, a mother of two, was referred from a private clinic with high emotional and physical fragility. She was aware of her HIV diagnosis, but did not accept it. She disguised her condition to her partner and herself as cancer, rather than disclosing that she had HIV.
In fact, at the time of her referral to Clínica de Familia, Susana had a diagnosis of pneumonia with pneumocystis carini, oral candidiasis, stomach pain, nausea, anemia and malnutrition. During her two weeks of internment before arriving at Clínica de Familia, she received two blood transfusions and was dependent on oxygen. Faced with this situation, unemployed and without strength, she arrived at Clínica de Familia relying on the support of two of her sisters and started her antiretroviral treatment in October 2016 with her immune system on the floor.
In addition to the medical care and treatment provided, the Clínica de Familia team also accompanied her with home visits on a daily basis. Adherence and psychology consultations supported the accompaniment, which would change her life forever!
Today Susana, 31, has recovered psychologically and physically. She has a strong immune system and a healthy weight. Empowered by her condition, with more strength than ever, she already works, helps her children and is a high school student. At the same time, she never misses her medical appointments and always takes her treatment. She is making plans for her future and the future of her children, which would not have been possible without the support received at Clínica de Familia.
Very good contribution. Thanks for sharing it.
